RYAN PHUA MEMORIAL KIDS' RIDE
|
Ryan’s Ride is a unique event for children 12 & under to ride on the same course as the pros. Children champions will not only pedal themselves to the finish line to thunderous applause, but also will learn the value of giving back to their community. Prizes will be given to all participants and top fundraisers.
While the event is free, participants are being asked to help raise funds for the Ryan Phua Memorial Fund, established through the Lance Armstrong Foundation to fund cancer-related programs in the Bay Area.
A Message from John and Michele:
Ryan's Ride is named in memory of Ryan Phua, one of our twins sons, born after John's successful recovery from cancer. Ryan was a healthy charming little boy who made our home sparkle with excitement. At the age of 2 1/2, Ryan passed away from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) on July 8, 2003. Our family misses our little boy in our lives every day, and we now focus our energy on planning Ryan's Ride to celebrate his life and feel his presence more than his absence.
We established the Ryan Phua Memorial Fund (Ryan's Fund) through the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) to support local Bay Area cancer survivorship programs. We hope that you can join Matthew, Ryan's twin brother, at Ryan's Ride to celebrate Ryan's precious short life and create unforgettable memories with your own families.
